Steve Reich’s Drumming!
Friday, June 7 at 7:30pm
Joseph Strug Concert Hall, Fountain School of Performing Arts
1385 Seymour St., Halifax
Sponsored by Michael Heller; Kazue Semba
Only two works on tonight’s program, both composed by consummate musical innovators. In Josef Haydn’s hands, the string quartet went from being a minor genre to the most complex and prestigious chamber music form. Steve Reich had a similarly seismic effect on music in the late 20th Century. In his minimalist masterwork, Drumming, beautiful interlocking rhythms form a mesmeric sonic geometry.
